Ravens cut starting safety Will Hill, and now we know reason why
On Tuesday, it appeared that the Baltimore Ravens were planning to pair new free-agent safety Eric Weddle with incumbent Will Hill to make an intriguing safety duo.
Well, you can scrap those plans. The Ravens cut Hill out of left field — it appeared — on Wednesday, after a season in which he started 14 games and was one of the team’s better defenders. He was most famous in 2015 for his dramatic blocked field goal against the Cleveland Browns as time expired.
A few hours later, the news as to why the Ravens cut him came out from an ESPN report:
Now the move to release Hill, and the subsequent move of cornerback Lardarius Webb over to safety permanently in his place, makes more sense. The move does save the Ravens $2.84 million in salary-cap space, as well.
But this is not Hill’s first run-in with the league, as he now has been suspended four times in four NFL seasons for violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. The question now is what team might be willing to sign Hill at this point and whether he has a future in the NFL.
