Mariners hit home run with ‘Nellie’s Auto Glass’ commercial
For several years the Seattle Mariners have dominated baseball in one often overlooked category: Television commercials. Yes, television commercials. Marketing matters, folks, and the Mariners have had this aspect of it down pat.
That string continued this year as Seattle’s marketing team released another solid batch of ads featuring many of the team’s star players. One commerical stood out from the pack though, and that revolved around the immense power of outfielder Nelson Cruz.

Over the years, Cruz and his “boomstick” have broken a windshield or two during batting practice in spring training, so it’s only natural that reputation was highlighted in a spot titled “Nellie’s Auto Glass.”
Well played, Mariners. Well played.
But here’s the coolest part. If you dial the number in the ad, you’ll actually get a recorded message from Cruz followed by a home run highlight. Nellie’s Auto Glass is truly open for business, and it’s those types of details that turn good commercials into home runs.
As for the rest of Seattle’s ads, they are getting mainly mixed reviews. Though honestly, it’s difficult to complain about anything involving Felix Hernandez.
In one ad, King Felix is peppered with questions from curious teammates wondering about his life as baseball royalty. Hernandez dismisses them all as ridiculous, before exiting the clubhouse in true regal fashion.
It works because Felix Hernandez embraces it and makes it work.
