Watch out, NL pitchers: Bartolo Colon can hit home runs now
If New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon hit a batting practice home run but no footage or pictures of the event exists, did it really happen? That’s a question many baseball fans are going to have to ponder now, because some allege it took place.
It seems unbelievable, right? Colon has delighted fans over the past two seasons by taking hacks in the National League. While he saw a big improvement in 2015, picking up eight hits over his two in 2014, only one resulted in an extra base knock.

At the same time, we want to believe it’s true. Probably because Colon has emerged as a favorite among Mets fans, and we enjoy his exploits at the plate. We have no reason to doubt Mr. Carig here, but we also have no pictures or video of said event.
In the age of social media, these things don’t stay hidden for long. The fact that there’s nothing out there yet makes us skeptical that we’ll get proof the event actually took place. Sure, grainy footage or pictures may emerge in the future, but like the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot, we’ll be left searching for the truth.
Whether Bartolo Colon actually hit a home run in spring training batting practice will now go down as one of baseball’s biggest mysteries? Is it on part with Babe Ruth’s called shot, or whether the balls were juiced following the 1994 strike? That’s not for us to say.

While we may never have the definitive answers to Ruth or the baseballs following the strike, it’s possible we’ll actually get closure on Colon’s feat. If he can do it in a game this season, we’ll have our proof. Until then, we just have to believe.
