Spring Headlines: Corey Seager out 1-2 weeks with sprained knee
The injuries are already piling up for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On Friday, star shortstop Corey Seager joined that list after tweaking his knee while running the bases. When he was still walking around gingerly on Saturday, he was sent for an MRI, and according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman that exam revealed a mild knee sprain.

”He just wasn’t moving as well as he normally does, so we just wanted to get him out as soon as possible,” manager Dave Roberts said of Seager’s injury on Friday. There wasn’t a lot of concern initially, but it obviously grew enough that the Dodgers wanted to conclusively eliminate something more serious. With that in mind, Saturday’s MRI obviously brings good news.
At 21, Seager is already an important part of the Dodgers. In 98 at-bats last season, he hit .337/.425/.561 with four homers, eight doubles and 17 RBIs. Seager was so impressive, he earned a spot on the roster and critical playing time during the postseason. Now he’s locked in as the Dodgers starting shortstop, but with Jimmy Rollins now gone, their depth there is pretty thin.
Beyond Seager’s injury concern, Justin Turner, who’s a multi-position player, is slowly recovering from knee surgery. both Howie Kendrick and Yasmani Grandal have missed this week with minor ailments. Hyun-Jun Ryu is making slow strides in his return from shoulder surgery. And Alex Wood was scratched from Saturday’s start with forearm tightness.
Needless to say, the Dodgers needed the good news they received on Seager.
