Okafor knee soreness could be season ending
The Philadelphia 76ers‘ Jahlil Okafor has missed the past five games with leg injuries, and coach Brett Brown is uncertain whether the rookie will return to the court this season because of recurring soreness in his right knee.
The 76ers were awaiting the results of a CAT scan Tuesday before determining a timetable for a possible return.
“I think everything will be reviewed after we get that information,” Brown said, according to Philly.com. “It’s a fair question, but I think it’s reckless right now to say what the plan is when we don’t know what the information truly is.”
Okafor has not played since Feb. 28, when he collided with teammate Isaiah Canaan late in a loss to the Orlando Magic. Okafor missed four games because of a shin contusion then was out for Wednesday’s 118-104 loss to the Houston Rockets because of knee soreness.
“I’m assuming everybody saw the hit [with Canaan] on his shin,” Brown said. “It was significant. It’s on the same leg, so the swelling may or may not have something to do with the knee. I know we put him on a treadmill [Monday] and there was something funny.”
The 20-year-old Okafor missed two games in December with right knee soreness as well. He is averaging 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 53 games this season.
