Cullen had no apparent injury on the play and finished the game for the Penguins. He played in the team’s next game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
Ruutu has played in just 23 games this season for the Devils, notching zero points and a minus-6 rating. He missed 27 games earlier in the season with a fractured foot.
When Ruutu was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes, he was suspended in 2009 for a hit on then Colorado Avalanche forward Darcy Tucker. Last season Ruutu had 28 penalty minutes in 77 games for the Devils. This season he has eight penalty minutes.
