The Daily Dose: Dose: Lillard Savings Time
Lillard has been an MVP candidate since the break, averaging 33.5 points, 3.8 boards, 5.3 dimes, 0.9 steals and 4.0 treys. He has a whopping 35.1 usage rate matched only by his sterling efficiency of a 64.0 true shooting percentage. He can spit a hot verse and his game on the court has been worth five microphones.
Over Loading (Magic 98 at Lakers 107)
D’Angelo Russell sure likes Tuesday. Last Tuesday he put up a career-high 39 and he put up a 27 spot on 11-of-19 from the field on Tuesday. Russell added two rebounds, three assists, three steals and two 3-pointers. He has clicked in a big way and a lot of it has to do with shot selection. Russell is also finding ways to get to the basket and isn’t forcing shots nearly as much. He is clearly showing why he was picked second. Next year he could be a top-50 player.
Big Honey Is Money (Knicks 94 at Nuggets 110)
Battle Tested (Hawks 91 at Jazz 84)
Age Is Just a Number (Spurs 116 at Wolves 91)
Jurassic 5 Game Lead on the Celtics (Nets 99 at Raptors 104)
The Raptors pulled some surprises on Tuesday with a couple different starters. Jason Thompson and Norman Powell both got the starts on Tuesday and Thompson was actually pretty decent. He scored nine points with five rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in his 24 minutes. He basically slotted into Luis Scola’s minutes with the Argentine taking a night off for rest.
News and Notes from Tuesday
The Wizards are hopeful Bradley Beal (hip) can return on Friday. It’s a little odd he didn’t even travel with the team for Tuesday, but being off Wednesday and Thursday is big. There really won’t be one player stepping up anyway, so fantasy owners can just bench Beal.
Coach Mike Malone said Danilo Gallinari was ahead of schedule, but he didn’t know what that meant. There is no reason to rush him back.
Andre Iguodala (hamstring) is questionable for Wednesday. The Warriors will be taking it easy on him the rest of the way because they won’t want him to pull a hamstring again. Harrison Barnes hasn’t been great while Ian Clark and Brandon Rush will get more run, too.
Nik Stauskas (leg) was back at practice. We’ll see how Hollis Thompson and Isaiah Canaan are affected with Sauce back. It should affect Canaan more.
The Pelicans picked up Orlando Johnson. He is now their only healthy wing on the roster, but he won’t be too involved in the offense anyway — I’m not counting Dante Cunningham as a wing. Norris Cole (back) is still questionable, but he should be OK.
Jared Sullinger (skin infection) is questionable for Wednesday against the Grizzlies. He should be OK now that he’s out of the hospital, but you never know. Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) is also 50-50 to play. If both can’t go, we’ll see a lot of Jonas Jerebko to go with more Amir Johnson. Jordan Mickey?
Stanley Johnson (shoulder) is still out. Maybe Jodie Meeks (foot) time? Obviously don’t add him or use him in DFS yet.
Hassan Whiteside (illness) is questionable for Wednesday. If he’s out, we might see some more Amare Stoudemire and Josh McRoberts might play more.
Jahlil Okafor (shin) is out for Wednesday while Nerlens Noel (knee) should be back. Jerami Grant should be cleared for takeoff still. Carl Landry and Richaun Holmes are not as appealing.
