Canadiens lose Gallagher 2-3 weeks with lower-body injury
The hits just keep coming for the Montreal Canadiens.
During the team’s game against the Dallas Stars, the Habs announced they would be without forward Brendan Gallagher for two to three weeks due to a lower body injury. According to Montreal’s press release, he suffered the game against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. He played only 4:52 before leaving the tilt.
Playing in only 49 games this season, Gallagher is sixth on Montreal in scoring with 35 points (17-18). He’s second on the team in power play goals at 7.
Gallagher missed 17 games earlier this year with fractured fingers. When he left the lineup, the Habs were 16-4-2, and proceeded to go 9-15-3 until he returned at the Winter Classic. We’d like to say things improved greatly over when he returned, but that’s not how this season is going for the Habs.
As of writing, the Canadiens are nine points away from a Wild Card spot with 15 games to go. Nobody wants to say the dreaded “T” word in Montreal, but perhaps Gallagher’s injury is what will put them over the top and make a race to the bottom.
