miss a couple of early spring games due to right knee soreness, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com. Stanton told manager Don Mattingly his knee was bothering him Sunday, and Mattingly decided to give the outfielder a few days of rest until the situation improves.

As of right now, it doesn’t appear to be a serious issue. Stanton was examined by a team doctor Monday, and is considered day-to-day. An MRI has not been scheduled just yet.
That’s positive news for Marlins fans, though the fact that Stanton is dealing with an injury already isn’t encouraging. Stanton has had issues staying healthy since 2012, when he had surgery to remove bodies from the same knee. A thigh strain limited Stanton to 113 games in 2013, and a facial fracture ended his season early in 2014. A broken bone in his hand limited Stanton to just 74 games in 2015.
Stanton has obvious MVP-caliber talent when healthy, so the Marlins will do everything possible to make sure he doesn’t return to action until he’s ready. The 26-year-old hit .265/.346/.606, with an amazing 27 home runs, in just 318 plate appearances last season.
