Florida State OL Chad Mavety sidelined with cardiac issue
Chad Mavety will miss spring football after being diagnosed with a cardiac issue, coach Jimbo Fisher said Thursday.
Florida State offensive lineman“We’re having to evaluate (him) and it may be tough,” Fisher said. “It’s nothing he can control or anybody can control. It’s something we found so it’s a safety issue.”
Mavety started eight games for the Seminoles last year, but began showing symptoms late in the year. He missed several practices leading up to the Peach Bowl and the game itself.
Mavety, who started five games at left guard and three at right tackle, would have been a full-time starter this spring.
Mavety is one of 10 players who will miss spring football at Florida State. Included in that group is quarterback Sean Maguire, who suffered a lower leg injury during the Peach Bowl. He is still in a medical walking boot, but Fisher said that will come off this week and Maguire will begin walking normally.
Maguire has been throwing passes to teammates using a walking scooter to support himself. There is no timetable on his return to practice.
