NHL fines Joseph Blandisi, Devante Smith-Pelly $2,000 for diving
Joseph Blandisi and Devante Smith-Pelly of the New Jersey Devils are both out $2,000 after being fined for diving/embellishment. The NHL’s Hockey Operations Department flagged the forwards twice, with the second infractions earning the fines.

Blandisi’s dive that triggered the fine came against the New York Rangers on Feb. 23:
He was warned following this Oscar-worthy flop against the Philadelphia Flyers just a week before:
Blandisi did apologize for the dive against the Flyers and said via Tom Gulitti following his penalty in the Rangers game, “I think after what happened the other week there, obviously, I’ve got a name for myself now and I’m not going to get the better side of lots of calls and I brought that on myself.”
Smith-Pelly was warned just before Christmas but was caught again on Feb. 24 while still a member of the Montreal Canadiens.
Blandisi joins Jordin Tootoo and Bobby Farnham as Devils fined this season for diving, meaning another New Jersey player getting caught will take $2,000 out of head coach John Hynes’ pocket.
