Eichel stays a bridesmaid as McDavid wins game in overtime (Video)
After Connor McDavid scored 22 seconds into his first game against the Buffalo Sabres, Jack Eichel had the opportunity to change the narrative and be the hero at the end of the game.
But alas, Eichel is always a bridesmaid and never a bride. At least, for now.
In overtime, Eichel deftly skates and puck handles around Andrej Sekera. The Oilers defenseman makes a diving effort to stop Eichel’s progress. The teen spins around and fires a backhand on net that goes wide. McDavid retrieves and effortlessly rockets up the ice past Rasmus Ristolainen and through the fivehole of Robin Lehner.
McDavid’s parents were on hand to see their son win net his first – and definitely not last – career overtime winner.
In the first meeting of Jack and Connor, the Canadian kid came out on top. We have to wait until next season to see the two match up again.
