Yoenis Cespedes, Noah Syndergaard ride to practice on horseback
There hasn’t been a game played yet that counts in the spring training standings, but it’s safe to say New York Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes is winning the spring.
One day after we learned that Cespedes recently attended the St. Lucie County Fair in Florida in full cowboy attire and purchased an award-winning hog for reasons unknown, the outfielder showed up at the Mets spring training facility Tuesday morning on horseback. And this time he brought pitcher Noah Syndergaard with him.

Cespedes stopped his horse by an empty parking space at the team’s facility and then seemed uncertain about what to do next with his ride while a few fans and members of the media approached to get a photo of the unusual scene.
While Cespedes wore a cowboy hat and boots for his ride to practice, Syndergaard opted for the Mets batting helmet. He must not be ready to go full cowboy yet.

Remember when Cespedes showed up to one of the first workouts this spring in something resembling a Batmobile and you thought it would be the biggest oddity of the spring for the defending National League champs? Yeah, well Cespedes seems like he’s on a mission to try to top himself each day with something even more peculiar. And we love that about him.
Some guys are all business in the spring and completely focused on getting ready for the season. There is nothing wrong with that, but it’s nice to see a guy like Cespedes who is clearly having the time of his life. Here is an interesting thought. Can you imagine what it might be like if Cespedes and Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon were ever with the same team in spring training?
