Virginia Tech TE Kalvin Cline transfers to Texas A&M
Kalvin Cline is headed from the ACC to the SEC.
Cline, a tight end who recently finished his redshirt sophomore season at Virginia Tech, announced Sunday that he will transfer to Texas A&M after he graduates in May. As a graduate transfer, Cline will be able to suit up immediately for the Hokies. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
“Couldn’t be more thankful for my time at Virginia Tech. It’s been an amazing three years and Hokie Nation has a special place in my heart,” Cline wrote in an Instagram post. “It was truly an honor to play for a legend like Frank Beamer and I wish nothing but the best for my teammates this upcoming season. But after I graduate in May I will be finishing my last two years of eligibility at Texas A&M. Can’t wait to do big things at College Station and see the 12th man light up the stadium! Gig’em Aggies!”
The 6-foot-4, 237-pound Cline had a solid freshman campaign – 26 catches for 321 yards and two touchdowns – in 2013, but struggled with injuries over the past two years. In 2014 and 2015, Cline combined for just four catches for 41 yards. He was given a medical redshirt for the 2014 season due to a knee injury.
Virginia Tech returns Bucky Hodges (85 catches for 1,056 yards and 13 TDs in ’14 and ’15), but is thin at tight end otherwise.
