Ty Dillon in No. 14 at Atlanta, Brian Vickers in at Las Vegas
Brian Vickers will be returning to Tony Stewart’s No. 14 at Las Vegas.
Stewart-Haas Racing said Tuesday that Vickers would drive the third Cup Series race of the season for Stewart. The team also confirmed reports that Ty Dillon would drive Stewart’s car at Atlanta on Sunday. Stewart is sidelined indefinitely for the beginning part of the 2016 season after he suffered a fractured vertebra.
Bass Pro Shops is sponsoring the Atlanta race. Bass Pro, which has a sponsorship deal for the No. 14 car and is the team’s primary sponsor at Atlanta, sponsors Dillon in the Xfinity Series. Dillon acknowledged that he was in discussions with SHR for the ride before the Daytona 500.
Dillon has made 79 Xfinity Series starts and won at Indianapolis in 2014. He finished second in the 2013 Camping World Truck Series standings.
Vickers drove the No. 14 in the Daytona 500. He ran near the front of the field for much of the final laps of the race but was shuffled back to 26th at the finish. It was Vickers’ first points race since he raced at Phoenix in the spring of 2015. He missed all but two races in 2015 after he had a recurrence of blood clots.
No replacement drivers for Stewart have been named past Las Vegas.
