Navy retires Keenan Reynolds’ No. 19 jersey
There will never be another No. 19 at Navy.
At the football program’s annual banquet on Sunday night, Navy announced that record-setting quarterback Keenan Reynolds’ number has officially been retired. Reynolds is the fourth Navy football player to have his number retired, joining Heisman winners Roger Staubach (No. 12) and Joe Bellino (No. 27) and standout running back Napoleon McCallum (No. 30).
“This is quite an honor and something that I never dreamed would happen,” Reynolds said. “I give all the credit to my teammates. This is a group honor and without my teammates over the past four years none of this would have been possible. I would like to thank (Naval Academy Superintendent) Vice Admiral (Ted) Carter, (athletic director) Chet Gladchuk and coach (Ken) Niumatalolo for this unbelievable honor that I will never forget.”
Reynolds finished fifth in the Heisman voting and was named third-team All-American as a senior in 2015. He set a Navy record for a quarterback with 32 wins in his four seasons and was 7-1 in Service Academy games, including a 4-0 mark vs. Army.
Additionally, Reynolds set an FBS record with 88 career rushing touchdowns and his 4,559 career rushing yards are the most for a quarterback in FBS history. Reynolds also holds Navy’s school record for passing touchdowns (31).
In addition to having his jersey retired, Reynolds also won the team’s MVP award for the fourth straight year and was the winner of the Roger Staubach and Napoleon McCallum Awards for leadership and all-purpose yardage, respectively.
