John Daly to make PGA Tour Champions debut in May
John Daly is on the verge of 50, and now he has an official start date on PGA Tour Champions.
Daly will make his debut on the nee Senior PGA Tour, erstwhile Champions Tour, at the Insperity Invitational from May 6-8 at The Woodlands Golf Club in The Woodlands, Texas — former home of the Shell Houston Open.
The two-time major winner turns 50 on April 28, qualifying for the senior circuit, of sorts. In early February, Daly played in the pro-am for the tour’s Allianz Championship and shot some promotional materials for his debut.
Daly should be an instant hit on a circuit that promotes quality access to great players, including Bernhard Langer, Fred Couples and Kenny Perry.
The 1991 PGA and 1995 British Open champion made 10 starts on the PGA Tour last season, making the cut twice. Most weeks on PGA Tour Champions there is no cut, so fans will get to see Daly play in a somewhat relaxed atmosphere for three days.
That sounds like a formula for success for Daly.
