The Orioles have banned pie-in-the-face celebrations
The Baltimore Orioles have taken postgame celebrations to a new level in recent years, often punctuating their big victories with a pie-in-the-face routine that you know is coming, but still manages to entertain. It was one of those traditions that developed organically over time, and even landed the Orioles a promotional deal with Dangerous Pie.
But like all good things in life, that tradition is over now. As of Saturday, the Orioles have officially banned pie-in-the-face celebrations, meaning it’s back to the celebratory drawing board.

Star outfielder Adam Jones delivered the sad news on Twitter Saturday. Jones attempted to break it as gently as possible, first warning fans they were about to hear something terrible.
Then he hit them right between the eyes like any good pie thrower would do.
Naturally, the news has been mostly met with disappointment from fans, and even from Dangerous Pies themselves.
Indeed, this news is not going to go over well.
As for the Orioles reasoning, it’s all about player safety. They don’t want to be the team that announced a key players just hit the disabled list because he took an aggressive pie throw to the nose.
They’re not wrong, probably. Something silly is bound to happen eventually, but this is considerably less dangerous than those postgame dog piles where someone always appears to be crushed.

Oh well, if Adam Jones can accept it, we’ll just have to follow along.
Uh oh, this could get interesting. Someone keep an eye on Adam!
