Yasiel Puig’s helicopter idea doesn’t fly in Los Angeles
Those dreaming of a dramatic Yasiel Puig entrance on opening day involving a helicopter will surely be disappointing by Friday’s revelations.

According to Andy McCullogh of the Los Angeles Times, Puig has been informed that federal laws would prohibit him from traveling to Dodger Stadium via a helicopter, therefore smashing the hopes and dreams of a city and a country longing for a memorable landing.
This clarification comes one day after TMZ reported that Puig was leaning toward buying a helicoper to help him beat traffic. Puig has famously had issues in the past making it to the ballpark on time, or at least by the time former manager Don Mattingly required players to arrive. The helicopter idea, while somewhat far-fetched even in theory, seemed to be aimed toward fixing that problem.
Now that his idea won’t fly, at least not in Los Angeles, it’s back to square one for Puig. Though if he’s truly looking for a fix here, leaving his home 20-30 minutes earlier would probably go a long way toward solving it.

It’s also worth noting that now former Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke once considered buying a helicopter for the very same reason as Puig. He ultimately decided against it because he came to the conclusion that landing at Dodger Stadium would not be allowed. Lo and behold, he was right, though we imagine the Dodgers would have done there part to talk him out of it either way.
The same would likely be true with Puig as well. Between safety concerns for him and others at or around the ballpark, to logistical issues that would be in play, there are plenty reasons why a helicopter landing wouldn’t fit in their plans. It sounds good on paper, but the execution has disaster written all over it.
