Donald Trump will appear at next week’s WGC at Doral
Donald Trump will be on site at next week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship at his Trump Doral resort outside of Miami. However, the Republican presidential frontrunner won’t be as visible as in years past.
“I’ll be there very limited because I have the Secret Service,” Trump said, according to the Miami Herald. “But I’ll be there.”
Since Trump bought the resort in 2012, he has been a prominent fixture during tournament week at the WGC. He’s usually involved in the trophy presentation and has been visible and available for media and supporters alike. In 2015, he hired a diver to recover the 3-iron Rory McIlroy chucked into one of the Blue Monster’s many water hazards in anger.
Things have changed in 2016, however, with Trump looking more and more as the likely Republican presidential nominee. With a Secret Service security detail in tow, Trump’s presence on the property could not only become a logistical nightmare but also distract heavily from the tournament.
Trump may well only appear at the tournament for the final round, which will be five days after the Super Tuesday series of primaries that could all but lock up the GOP nomination for the real estate mogul.
