Arizona reliever Andrew Chafin chooses the simple life in an RV
Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Andrew Chafin wasn’t ready to put down roots in the Phoenix area by purchasing a home and he wasn’t happy with the high price of rent he paid last season. So Chafin invested in 42-foot Keystone Fuzion RV where he plans to live this season.

Chafin grew up in rural Ohio and prefers to be able to retreat to a quiet atmosphere when he’s away from the ballpark, which was part of the allure of buying an RV.

Chafin spent his first full season in the big leagues in 2015, appearing in 66 games and finishing with a 2.76 ERA. He doesn’t have a million dollar contract yet, so saving money is also a priority. He made the major league minimum of $507,500 and will likely make a similar amount this season.
Chafin told The Arizona Republic newspaper he is paying less to rent space in mobile home lot and the monthly payment on the RV versus paying rent on a house or an apartment like many of his teammates do. He first got the idea to buy an RV from former Diamondbacks bullpen coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr., who also lives in an RV during the season.
“I’m pretty simple when it comes to what I need off the field,” Chafin told the paper. “So decided that this might be the best route to go.”

This isn’t exactly roughing it. Chafin’s RV comes with all the modern amenities you might expect to find in a typical rental property and then some. It features a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and garage. Yes, a garage.
It also has a king size bed, a large refrigerator, a 55-inch television and even an electric fireplace he uses to heat the place at night when needed. Chafin also has a truck to get around and small fishing boat parked next to the RV.
