Mets staffer took Yoenis Cespedes’ Lambo out on waffle-maker run
Yoenis Cespedes isn’t one to arrive anywhere quietly, and that’s especially true at spring training.
When Cespedes shows up, he immediately becomes the talk of camp, and it’s not because of the shape he’s in or his contract. It’s because of his wheels, as in his incredible collection of cars.

Cespedes’ garage includes a fire-breathing Lamborghini and a Batmobile. In fact, we’ve already seen both vehicles at camp this week.
To put it simply, Cespedes is a wealthy man with a healthy taste in stylish rides. But that doesn’t tell the whole story. Not even close, because Cespedes is also a man with more basic needs, which includes a desire to consume round-shaped waffles.
Note that was specifically said “round-shaped” waffles, because that leads into a pretty hilarious story from Wednesday.
After Cespedes rolled into the Mets spring facility in Port St. Lucie driving his famous fire-breathing Lambo, he realized something was amiss in the kitchen. Sure, the team had waffles, but these waffles had corners, meaning they weren’t round. That is not how Cespedes wants to begin his day, so he decided to send a Mets’ kitchen staffer out looking for a round-shaped iron.
This is a true story, but it gets better.
In doing so though, Cespedes also made it worth the staffer’s while. According to Newsday’s Marc Carig, Cespedes gave that staffer the keys to his $397,500 Lambo and allowed her to drive around town looking for the iron.
So yes, if you saw a fire-breathing Lamborghini driving that area on Wednesday, there’s a good chance you witnessed this amazing event in action.

It turns out this wasn’t a quick trip either. The staffer first went to Wal-Mart because Wal-Mart usually has everything in stock. Today though, they were out of waffle irons. She then went to Target and had much better luck. From there, she returned Cespedes’ car safely to the facility.
Honestly, it’s a little surprising Cespedes would allow anyone else behind the wheel of his pride and joy, but maybe it’s just a symbol of how much faith he has in the Mets and why he says returning there is like returning home. Or maybe, just maybe, he loves his round-shaped waffles that much.
