Felix Hernandez’s new blond look isn’t going over with teammates
When your name is Felix Hernandez and you’re the king of baseball in Seattle, you can do just about anything you want. That includes dying your hair blond so it looks like an unofficial crown, and dying your goatee to match it.
Lo and behold, that’s exactly what King Felix has done, showing up to camp last week with a new look that had his teammates and fans alike scratching their heads.

That photo was taken shortly after Hernandez arrived to camp. In the time that has followed, those around him had the opportunity to absorb the new look and get used to it. Unfortunately, it would appear the opposite is happening, with teammates Taijuan Walker and Nelson Cruz providing the strongest opinions against Felix’s new look.
Don’t hold back, guys. If those words from his friends weren’t stiff enough, some fans have also weighed in less than favorably.
This isn’t a style blog by any means, but the people have spoken and they are rejecting the look overwhelmingly. Not that any of this has fazed Hernandez.
“I’m going to keep it,” Hernandez told The Tacoma News Tribune. “For the entire season. I just wanted something different. I (decided to) try to be blond. I was tired of seeing my black hair in the mirror all of the time, so I decided to be blond.”

Like a good pitcher, sometimes it’s best to roll with what has always worked. Then again, Hernandez has the clout to overrule such rules. And let’s be honest here, as long as Hernandez keeps wiping out hitters with his curveball, we imagine the hair talk will disappear faster than a Jeremy Hernandez fastball.
It’s all good, King, his loyal subjects will say. You’re still the man.
