Bulls' Rose out vs. Wiz with hamstring tendinitis
CHICAGO — Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will not play Wednesday night against the Washington Wizards because of right hamstring tendinitis.
Rose said before the game that move to sit was precautionary and he didn’t ‘want to take any risk.’ The right hamstring is the same one that has given him trouble off and on throughout the season.
“A little bit [Tuesday] after we practiced while we were practicing,” Rose said of when the hamstring started becoming an issue again. “then this morning, that’s when I really felt it.” Rose said he made the decision to sit on his own after listening to his body. He doesn’t sound very concerned that it will keep him out many games.
“I’m taking it one day at a time,” Rose said. “Try not to risk it. That’s what it’s all about, just reading my body.”
Rose came into Wednesday’s game playing the most consistent basketball of his season. This marks the eighth game of the season he will miss.
“I love the way I’m playing,” Rose said. “I feel like I’m playing to win. I feel like I’m in a good mood, a great place mentally. Just trying not to risk all of it by just going out there and just playing crazy.”
After all the injuries that he has been through over the last four years, Rose is clearly taking a more cautious approach this year.
When asked if this would be the way it is this year, in terms of listening to his body more, Rose was quick with a response.
“I think that’s with anyone,” Rose said. “When you look at my situation, what I’ve been through, it’s like the norm. My body’s just got to get used to moving and the way I want it.”
Bulls center Pau Gasol will be available to play. He missed Tuesday’s practice because of flu-like symptoms.
