Dave Dombrowski ‘not concerned’ about Pablo Sandoval’s weight
here it is, in all its bulging glory.
We’ve all seen the unflattering picture of Pablo Sandoval taking part in the Boston Red Sox’s first official workout of spring training. And if you’re one of the few that’s been able to avoid it:Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski has seen it, too. He’s seen Sandoval in person as well, and Dombrowski says he isn’t at all worried about Sandoval’s weight.
“I’m not concerned,” Dombrowski told the Globe. “We were watching him very closely all winter. We had people with him at least once a week. The goal was for Pablo to get in better overall condition and I feel like he did improve.”
“Pablo has the body type he has,” said Dombrowski. “He’s never going to be svelte. We know that. We wanted him to be prepared for spring training and he is.”

Sandoval’s weight is going to be a talking point until he proves he can produce closer to what’s expected from a player who signed a five-year, $95 million contract last offseason after helping the Giants win three World Series titles and being selected to a couple All-Star games. He wasn’t thin back then, either.
At the very least, he needs to be more productive than the .245/.292/.366 he hit over 505 plate appearances in his first season in Boston.
But since he can’t truly start on the comeback trail until the start of the regular season in about six weeks, get used to the daily updates on Sandoval’s conditioning and physique from Red Sox camp.
Welcome back, baseball.
