2 Kansas players arrested, accused of robbery
Two Kansas football players were arrested Monday following an alleged weekend incident.
According to the Lawrence Journal-World, cornerback Eric Rivers and linebacker Kendall Duckworth are accused of robbing another Kansas student around 2:25 a.m. Saturday morning. The man told police two men robbed him of his money outside Jayhawker Towers, a campus apartment complex.
The suspects were not armed and the victim was not injured, police said. According to the Kansas City Star, the university’s public safety office records say the man was robbed of $40.
In addition to robbery arrest, Rivers was also being held in relation to another alleged incident. Per the Journal-World, a female KU student told police Rivers “inappropriately” touched her and “attempted to remove her clothing without her consent” early Sunday morning. Thusly, Rivers was also arrested for suspicion of sexual battery and criminal restraint.
Jayhawks head coach David Beaty dismissed Rivers from the program while Duckworth has been suspended.
“I am aware of the situation and am in the process of gathering all of the facts,” Beaty said in a statement. “Eric Rivers has been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules. For the time being, Kendall Duckworth has been suspended from all team activities.”
Rivers and Duckworth were both released from Douglas County Jail on Monday afternoon. Rivers, a sophomore, redshirted the 2015 season while Duckworth, a freshman, played in seven games and registered three tackles.
