Felix Hernandez’s son Jeremy is still bringing the heat
letting the children of Mariners’ players throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
One of the best highlights of the Seattle Mariners 2015 season took place on Father’s Day at Safeco Field. It had nothing to do with the game that afternoon, which Seattle lost 6-2 to the Houston Astros. It actually had everything to do with what happened before the game, when the Mariners celebrated byFour children were selected, including Hisashi Iwakuma’s son, Seth Smith’s daughter and Jesus Sucre’s son, but only one stole the show. That would be Jeremy Hernandez. aka the Prince of Seattle, who energized the crowd much the same way his father, King Felix, does by unleashing a sizzling fastball.

That pitch happened a little under eight months ago, right after Jeremy turned six years old. Now closer to seven, he was back on the diamond at the Mariners’ spring training facility in Peoria, Ari. this week showing us what a difference eight months can make when you’re still a kid.
That fastball had so much sizzle they had to slow the video down just so we could see it.
And no, there’s no truth to the rumor that Jeremy is there as a non-roster invitee, but that form suggests his day is coming.
In fact, some Mariners’ fans don’t want to wait.
Some patience will be required here. Let’s at least let Prince Jeremy get in a couple years of Little League. Maybe get his driver’s license and go to a prom or two. Then we can reassess where he ranks as a prospect.
It’s funny to think though. If his baseball skills developed over the years, it’s conceivable he could appear in a major-league camp before Mike Trout or Bryce Harper walk away. Don’t think about it too long though. It goes from funny to scary pretty quickly.
