The Daily Dose: Dose: Day After – Team Notes
The trade deadline was a bit of a dud but there is plenty to talk about. Let’s go team-by-team in quick hits and look at the trades, injuries and position battles. If you’re looking for every deal and rumor from Thursday, my live trade blog has it all. And you can follow me on Twitter by clicking here. I’m off to answer a ton of Twitter questions after this column is posted, although a lot of my responses come in the form of direct tweets, so make sure you’re following me on the account you used to ask the question.
Atlanta – Remember in the movie The Jerk when Navin (Steve Martin) got so fired up about the new phone book arriving and finding his name in it? I liked to envision him yelling “Kirk Hinrich is here, Kirk Hinrich is here!” on Thursday. The team that was talking about blowing it up turned out to be the team to pull off the least exciting move of the day. If you’re still holding Dennis Schroder, I’m cool with it. But you just have to look at his first-half numbers to figure out what you’ve got. Oh, and Tiago Splitter (hip) is done for the season.

Boston – No trades and I like Jared Sullinger right now with Kelly Olynyk out with a shoulder injury.
Brooklyn – No meaningful injuries to speak of and Thaddeus Young, whose name was kicked around Twitter all day, is still starting for the Nets.
Charlotte – The Hornets picked up Courtney Lee on Tuesday and he’s going to create a three-headed logjam at SG with the Jeremy’s (Lin and Lamb), while Al Jefferson is due back tonight! Spencer Hawes is out for a couple and Marvin Williams (neck) is iffy, giving Cody Zeller some new life despite the return of Big Al. Frank Kaminsky could also do something tonight if Marvin sits. Additionally, Lee isn’t expected to play tonight due to his physical not being completed in time.
Chicago – The Bulls swapped Hinrich for Justin Holiday, but otherwise kept the team intact. Taj Gibson was back last night and had seven points and eight boards, and Derrick Rose played well again with 28 points and seven boards. Mike Dunleavy and E’Twaun Moore started, but combined for just 10 points on 2-of-16 shooting. Ouch. Bobby Portis got loose for 13 points and 10 boards and is probably worth grabbing again after getting 26 minutes in the loss to Cleveland. Joakim Noah (shoulder) is done for the season.
Cleveland – The Cavs beat the Bulls last night after chilling on deadline day. Well, they did add Channing Frye and shipped Anderson Varejao to the Blazers, who promptly cut him. Frye probably won’t do much in fantasy, but was a nice add in reality for the hopeful Eastern champs. LeBron James, Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson all went off, as James just missed a triple-double and Love and Thompson double-doubled in the win. James looked refreshed and spry last night.
Dallas – The Mavs didn’t make a move on Thursday, but did make a play for Ben McLemore that never materialized. Devin Harris (toe) is the only injury of note.
Denver – The Nuggets sent Randy Foye to the Thunder for G D.J. Augustin and F Steve Novak, but they will try to buyout Novak. DJA is going to backup Emmanuel Mudiay at PG with Jameer Nelson (wrist) hurting. Kenneth Faried stayed put, there’s still a logjam at center, and the departure of Foye could help Will Barton and Gary Harris some.
Editor’s Note: RotoGrinders.com’s Seth Yates looked at the perfect FanDuel lineup for each NBA slate from the beginning of the season through the All-Star Break and the results were fascinating. Check out his findings in this “FanDuel NBA Perfect Lineup Review.”
Detroit – The Pistons sent Joel Anthony and a protected first-round pick to the Rockets for Marcus Thornton. With Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Stanley Johnson around it should be more of the same for Thornton – wild inconsistency. They acquired Tobias Harris on Tuesday, sending Ersan Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings to the Magic, which turned out to be one of the bigger trades of the week. Harris will come off the bench behind Anthony Tolliver for his first three games, but should quickly move into the starting five by the end of next week. KCP has been out with a groin injury but is expected to play tonight.
Golden State – No moves and the only injury of note is to Festus Ezeli (knee). The song remains the same in Oakland and there’s nothing left to do but sit back and see if they can break the Bulls’ record of 72 wins.
Houston – Ty Lawson, Terrence Jones and Dwight Howard are all still Rockets, Marcus Thornton and Donatas Motiejunas are in Detroit, and Jason Terry may have been the big winner with Thornton gone. And when I say big winner, I mean a guy who might see a few more meaningless minutes. The Rockets are still a mess and Jones won’t play on Friday while dealing with his concussion.
Indiana – The Pacers did nothing on Thursday and Paul George will be looking to stay hot against the Thunder on Friday after his 41-point feast at the All-Star Game. Jordan Hill is questionable with a finger injury and Ian Mahinmi is probable after taking a shot to the face last week.
LA Clippers – The Clippers made a big move by sending Lance Stephenson to the Grizzlies for Jeff Green, who should step into the small forward job for the Clippers, while also helping to fill in for Blake Griffin (hand, suspension). I don’t think Green lost much fantasy appeal, but he will probably cool off while he learns to play with his new team. The Clips crushed the Kawhi-less Spurs last night behind a big game from Chris Paul, and a little help from Paul Pierce, DeAndre Jordan, J.J. Redick and Jamal Crawford. They also plan to sign Alex Stephenson soon. He leads the D-League in rebounding.
LA Lakers – The Lakers didn’t make a move and are healthy with Larry Nance expected back on Friday. Julius Randle’s the man now, but Nance could slow his roll slightly upon returning. The Lakers tried to move Roy Hibbert but are not expected to buy him out, despite his struggles.
Memphis – The Grizzlies lost Jeff Green, which should give both Zach Randolph and Matt Barnes a boost (I think Barnes will start), while Tony Allen gets a boost with Courtney Lee now in Charlotte. They also added Lance Stephenson, who should help fill the void left by Lee and Green, but still shouldn’t make much of a fantasy dent. Center Brandan Wright (knee) is due back on Friday, should fill in for Marc Gasol (foot) and is a very hot fantasy pickup right now. I know we mentioned Mario Chalmers in the trade blurb when Lee was moved, but I think he’s still Conley’s back up and that Allen is the main beneficiary in Lee’s absence.
