Diamondbacks red uniform pants evoke Curt Schilling’s bloody sock
From the middle of the 2000 season to 2003, Curt Schilling posted some fantastic numbers with the Arizona Diamondbacks. During that time, he made two All-Star teams, finished second in Cy Young voting twice and helped lead the club to a World Series championship. When you consider all that, it makes sense that the club would want to pay tribute to Schilling in some way.

That said, we’re not sure about this one. Earlier in the offseason, the Diamondbacks announced they would be wearing new uniforms in 2016. Fans got a good look at the new jerseys at that point. The pants, however, well … fans got a good look at the pants today.
Does that remind you of anything? It certainly looks like all the Diamondbacks have bloody socks, doesn’t it?
It doesn’t really make sense for the club to pay tribute to Schilling like this. The bloody sock game didn’t even happen in Arizona, it happened when Schilling was a member of the Boston Red Sox!
OK, fine, we’ll drop the act for a minute. The Diamondbacks are clearly not paying tribute to Curt Schilling here. But, wow, the new look definitely reminds us of the bloody sock game.
That, of course, brings up a more important question: If the pants aren’t an homage to Schilling, to what are they paying tribute?

It’s possible the club is just a big fan of the video game Skyrim. All their players used to be adventurers until they took an arrow in the knee … or … ankle in this case. Maybe they are all fans of “The Walking Dead,” and want it to look like they’ve been bitten by zombies. If the opposing team thinks the D-Backs are all zombies, maybe they won’t show up to the game. That could happen, right? It is possible the team is partnering with Maker’s Mark and want their pants to look like these glasses?
More than likely, the team just went with that design because the powers that be thought it looked cool. Now, they have to deal with the unintended consequences of that decision. Things could be worse, though. They could be playing in shorts.
