Source: Pistons get Harris in trade with Magic
The Detroit Pistons on Tuesday acquired Tobias Harris from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova, according to league sources.
Harris, a fifth-year small forward averaging 13.7 points and 7.0 rebounds this season, is excited about the move.
“I’m ready to make the playoffs!” Harris said in a text message to ESPN.
Detroit (27-27) is currently one-half game behind Charlotte for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons expect him to bolster their chances of reaching the postseason for the first time since 2009.
Orlando had been looking for a point guard as Elfrid Payton works through his growing pains. Jennings, a starter for most of his career, should strengthen the Magic backcourt.
A point guard in his seventh season, Jennings is averaging just 6.8 points in 23 games this season — almost nine points below his career average of 16.0 points per game. Ilyasova, a power forward in his first season with Detroit after seven in Milwaukee, is averaging 11.3 points and 5.4 rebounds this season.
Jennings will be reunited with Magic coach Scott Skiles, his first coach after he was drafted 10th overall by Milwaukee in 2009.
