Blues’ Jaden Schwartz scores with help from ref’s skate (Video)
Jaden Schwartz gave the St. Louis Blues an early 1-0 lead over the Dallas Stars Tuesday night thanks to a little help from referee Kelly Sutherland.
Colton Parayko dumped the puck into corner of the Stars’ zone. It then deflected off of Sutherland’s skate as Kari Lehtonen was heading behind his own net to await the puck’s arrival.
Unfortunately for Lehtonen and the Stars the puck never made it that far as it went right out in front of the net where Schwartz was ready to pounce for his second goal of the season 12 seconds into the second period.
You can kind of see Sutherland react to the goal like, “Yep, that’s a goal. My bad.”
Back in September, Sutherland was voted one of the league’s best refs in a Puck Daddy anonymous players poll. It’s a safe bet that he went over to Lehtonen and the Stars bench at some point to apologize for the assist.
