Watch Jeff Lerg deliver save of the year candidate in ECHL (Video)
Hockey earned the number one play of the night Sunday on SportsCenter thanks to Toledo Walleye goaltender Jeff Lerg.
During a 3-2 shootout win over the Fort Wayne Komets, Lerg made 37 stops, including this save of the year stop in overtime that Garrett Meurs will be seeing in his dreams for a while.
Change the Walleye jerseys to that of the late 1990’s Buffalo Sabres and you’d have Dominik Hasek right there.
“I knew I had to play it like he was going to shoot it right off the bat and I committed to make that initial save, and then it was a desperation type play swinging my glove back behind me,” Lerg said via the Toledo Blade.
“Honestly, I didn’t feel it hit me so I was nervous at first. But I then I heard the crowd. It felt good to make that save.”
