Von Miller pokes fun at Cam Newton in ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit
Like many Super Bowl MVPs, Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller is enjoying his time in the spotlight. Before heading to the West Coast, where he’ll present a Grammy at Monday night’s presentation, Miller stopped by 30 Rockefeller Center on Saturday to take part in “Saturday Night Live’s” Weekend Update segment.
Miller helps to explain gravitational waves, a theory predicted by Albert Einstein and confirmed by a team of scientists last week, and takes a couple of jabs at Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the process:
Actor Michael Che tees up Miller by noting that he studied science in college, with a smiling Miller responding, “I guess you could say that.” Miller actually majored in poultry sciences at Texas A&M, which isn’t quite the same as physics.
But Miller knows enough about physics – or at least can read from a prompter – as his jokes in the skit show.
“Let me put it like this,” Miller says as he tries to explain two black holes colliding. “Picture two huge forces slamming together, like, say, me and Cam Newton.”
Che, dubious, tells Miller he’s just talking about football.
“Nah, I’m talking about science,” Miller insists. “Now, these forces that collided make gravity waves, like when I collided with Cam Newton, forcing a fumble.”
Che tells Miller he’s just bragging.
“I told you: this is science,” Miller responds. “These waves are everywhere in the universe, just like I’m everywhere when Cam Newton closes his eyes.”
“Von! You already won,” Che tells Miller.
“Look, this is a huge discovery. No one ever thought it would happen, kind of like no one ever thought we would hold the No. 1 offense to 10 points,” Miller said.
Though he stumbles a bit at times, Miller gives it a good effort. He ends by offering a new scientific equation: “M.E. equals M.V.P.”
