For more than a decade, we’ve published our primers on the Section 1 boys and girls basketball tournaments. They give your our outlook and offer our insights into what you can expect over the best two weeks on the local high school sports calendar. The boys primer ran in Monday’s Journal News and was published online Sunday.

Primer: Josh Thomson’s 2016 Section 1 boys basketball tournament primer

The primer highlights my favorites, top contenders, sleepers, upset specials, first-round games to watch and MVP candidates. And, oh yeah, all five picks to win the gold ball. The piece is also stocked full with links to all pertinent game coverage and analysis from during the regular season.

I also taped a video version with my thoughts about the tournament — including my championship predictions — with sports editor Leif Skodnick. Listen to Leif and I discuss the tournament here:

I will be back at 8 p.m. Thursday night to host another live chat to break. We can break down the first round and look ahead to the quarterfinals on Friday and Saturday. Remember: If you want to have your opinions heard, be sure to join the conversation on Thursday night.

In the meantime, tweet me any questions you might have. My first round predictions will be posted here prior to Tuesday’s games as well.
