Tom Wilson falls into Minnesota Wild bench after failed bodycheck (Video)
Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson flew into the Minnesota Wild bench on Thursday night after bouncing off Nino Niederreiter on an attempted bodycheck.
The play happened midway through the second period of their game at Xcel Energy Center. A video of the attempted hit is above. Niederreiter clearly stands his ground as Wilson loses balance on the play.
Wilson also appeared to fall onto the floor in front of the Wild players in quite comical fashion.
He is known as one of the more physical players in the NHL so seeing him involved in some sort of altercation where he gets the brunt of the punishment is rare.
In January, Boston Bruins forward Zac Rinaldo nailed Wilson in a physical contest between the two teams.
Coming into the game, he ranked 15th in the NHL with 154 hits.
Niederreiter ranks second on the Wild with 105 hits in 53 games played.
