Sabres call Radko Gudas ‘idiot’ after crushing Daniel Catenacci check (Video)
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas delivered a crushing check to Buffalo Sabres rookie Daniel Catenacci in a game on Thursday night.
The play happened near the end of their Thursday game, a 5-1 win by the Flyers. Catenacci was engaged with Chris VandeVelde going after a losse puck when Gudas stepped up and delivered the check. Gudas was given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct. After the game, Buffalo forward Marcus Foligno called Gudas “an idiot.”
Catenacci later went through the NHL’s concussion protocol according to coach Dan Bylsma.
It was the second altercation for Gudas in the game. Earlier in the contest he kneed Foligno, but did not receive a penalty on the play. Here is a video of that incident, which ended with the Flyers scoring and Foligno fighting Gudas.
In early December, Gudas was suspended three games for a head-shot on Ottawa Senators forward Mika Zibanejad.
In 173 career games, Gudas has 296 penalty minutes. This year he has 82 penalty minutes in 47 games played.
