5-star DE commit Tennessee letter of intent still not signed
Jonathan Kongbo isn’t officially a member of Tennessee’s 2016 recruiting class just yet.
The 5-star junior college defensive end told SEC Country that his father has not signed his letter of intent. The signature of a guardian is necessary to make the letter of intent official (and binding). Thus, Kongbo is not an official Tennessee commitment.
But Kongbo said he’s not looking to switch schools at the last minute.
My dad has been away,” Kongbo told SEC Country. “He will sign it when he gets home.”
When asked if he was looking at other schools, Kongbo said, “I’m not looking around. I’m not interested in anybody else.”
He’s listed as a member of the UT recruiting class by the school because he’s signed his financial aid agreement. Financial aid agreements aren’t binding; it’s why grad transfer Tyler Catalina is taking visits to other schools while being listed as a member of Iowa State’s recruiting class. Catalina has signed his FAA but has not signed scholarship papers with the Cyclones.
But while Catalina has been been public about looking at all of his options, Kongbo hasn’t wavered from the Vols on his Twitter account.
In 2015, top recruit CeCe Jefferson faxed his letter of intent to Florida after National Signing Day. Jefferson’s father was unhappy about a UF coaching change around signing day, though he eventually signed the LOI.
