Devils to honor Martin Brodeur, unveil statue
The New Jersey Devils are celebrating one of their greatest players this week by honoring the career of goaltender Martin Brodeur.
When the team hosts the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night they are going to retire Brodeur’s No. 30, but that is only part of the festivities. Along with that jersey ceremony the Devils are also dedicating a statue for their three-time winning Stanley Cup goalie.
That statue was unveiled on Monday night, and this is it.

Brodeur spent nearly all of his 22-year career with the Devils, the team that drafted him in the first round of the 1990 NHL draft. After spending 21 years with the Devils he went unsigned by the team following the 2013-14 season. That resulted in him joining the St. Louis Blues on a tryout contract where he ended up earning a one-year deal. He played seven games with the Blues at the age of 42 and ended up taking a front office position with the team.
Brodeur is the NHL’s all-time leader in wins (691), shutouts (125) and games played for a goalie (1,266). He is one of just two goalies (Patrick Roy) that have played in at least 1,000 career games.
He won three Stanley Cups during his time with the Devils and four Vezina Trophies as the NHL’s top goalie.
He was also credited with three goals during his career, also a record for goalies. Only Ron Hextall (two) has been credited with more than one.
