Kevin Spacey video pumps up Florida Panthers home crowd
The Florida Panthers and actor Kevin Spacey continued their interesting relationship on Thursday night.
An in-game video for their contest against the Detroit Red Wings at the BB&T Center jumbotron showed Spacey holding up a Panthers jersey that said “Spacey 1738” and giving a thumbs up sign to pump up the crowd.
Said the Miami Herald:
The reference to ‘1738’ apparently goes back to the team’s victory song — which is ‘Trap Queen’ by rapper Fetty Wap — in which Remy Martin 1738 cognac is referred to.
This is the latest installment of the Panthers’ saga with the Academy Award winning actor.
When it was first divulged that the Panthers handed out a “Spacey in Space” hooded sweatshirt to their player of the game, Spacey tweeted at center Aleksander Barkov.
Then when Barkov made public he agreed to a six-year contract with the team, he included Spacey in his tweet.
The Panthers also recently decided to sell “Spacey in Space” sweatshirts for charity at their team store. Proceeds went to the Florida Panthers Foundation and the Kevin Spacey Foundation.
Added the Herald:
The team is apparently working on getting the Oscar-winning actor to a game or to somehow interact with the team.
It’s believed some players ran into and met Spacey while the team was in New York back in December, leading to the sweatshirt and the subsequent craze.
During the NHL All-Star Skills Competition, defenseman Aaron Ekblad wore the “Spacey in Space” hoody for his hardest shot attempts.
On Thursday, Spacey once again brought the Panthers good luck as Florida beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-3. Legendary winger Jaromir Jagr became the sixth player in NHL history to notch at least 1,100 assists.
