The 10-man rotation, starring noted dap aficionado Adam Silver
A look around the league and the Web that covers it. It’s also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren’t always listed in order of importance. That’s for you, dear reader, to figure out.
C: The New York Times. Andrew Keh had the brilliant idea of asking NBA players, artists and Adam Silver himself about the commissioner’s commitment to, and facility with, giving dap. The results are pretty delightful.
PF: Philadelpjia Inquirer. Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie talks how his job has changed since the addition of Jerry Colangelo to the Sixers’ front office … which, as he tells it, is not much at all.
SF: The Sporting News. Adi Joseph on the slow but steady improvement of Frank Kaminsky, who’s becoming the anchor of the Charlotte Hornets’ second unit as one of many top-flight rookie big men making an impact during the 2015-16 season.
SG: Sports Illustrated. Rob Mahoney goes to the video tape to show what makes 19-year-old center Myles Turner such an important piece for the Indiana Pacers, especially on the defensive end.
PG: The Bergen Record. Joe Johnson isn’t pushing for the Brooklyn Nets to trade him or buy him out, but he would like a winning situation, if whoever’s now making decisions for the Nets has anything in mind.
6th: Salt Lake Tribune. Aaron Falk notes that a Utah Jazz team expected to win on the strength of its defense has looked awfully stingy since the returns of interior linchpins Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors from injury.
7th: Matt Steinmetz. As tantalizing as the prospect of Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors might be, Steinmetz wonders if there should be real concerns not only about integrating the former MVP next season, but about what effect persistent conversation about the idea might have on the potentially outgoing members of this year’s historic squad.
8th: NBA.com. Fran Blinebury looks at Dwight Howard’s one-game suspension for striking a referee as an example of the larger issue of his inability to square the role he sees himself playing with the one the Houston Rockets (and any other team that might or might not want him) needs him to play: “In a season when the Rockets are flailing constantly around the .500 mark and trying hold together some sense of possibility for the playoffs, Howard got himself tossed twice in 24 hours and cost his team two games in the standings.”
9th: Celticsblog. With the Boston Celtics floating around the middle of the Eastern Conference playoff picture and packing the kind of war chest of young players and draft picks that will have them in the running for any big name that comes on the market ahead of the Feb. 18 trade deadline, Jeff Clark preaches patience and the virtues of continuing to try to build through the draft.
10th: VICE Sports. The latest edition of Corbin Smith’s regular review of basketball highlights includes a children’s book about a boy whose favorite player is Kawhi Leonard, and you really ought to read it, especially if you are perhaps not somebody whose favorite player is Kawhi Leonard.
