Source: NBA, Clips finished with Griffin inquiry
The NBA and the Los Angeles Clippers have completed their investigation into the Blake Griffin-Matias Testi incident, according to a source. The Clippers have been consulting with the NBA on potential discipline for the star forward, and an announcement is expected next week.
Sources said Testi, an assistant equipment manager for the Clippers, is in no danger of losing his job following a Jan. 23 altercation in which Griffin broke his hand punching Testi, who suffered a swollen face.
Neither Griffin nor Testi will attend Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bulls, and sources say they are unlikely to join the team for Wednesday’s home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves as well.
Testi is expected to rejoin the Clippers for their four-game road trip beginning in Orlando on Friday, sources said.
Griffin is not expected to travel with the team on the road trip and could rejoin the Clippers for their first game after the All-Star break, Feb 18 vs. the San Antonio Spurs.
Clippers coach Doc Rivers said Friday that the Griffin investigation was nearing an end when offering support for the forward.
“He feels awful about it, and he’s let everyone know that,” Rivers said. “That’s all you can do. You have to forgive people at some point. I believe that. We built Richard Nixon a library. I mean, my goodness. You forgive people. You really do. You kind of move on, and you build it back.”
The Clippers expect Griffin to miss two months recovering from a spiral fracture of the fourth metacarpal in his right hand.
