Bartolo Colon took his offseason workout to the beach
If there’s one thing everyone should agree on, it’s that Bartolo Colon is the best.
Perhaps not the best pitcher, though Colon is obviously doing pretty good if he still has a major-league contract with the pitching rich New York Mets at age 42.
Certainly not the best hitter either, though his plate appearances are entertaining enough to warrant their own hashtag on social media.

And just to be thorough, Colon is also not the slickest fielder around, but every now and then he’ll surprise you with a behind-the-back flip that makes time stand still and the earth shake.
Point being, Bartolo Colon is not the best at any one thing pertaining to baseball. He’s just the best because he embraces being Bartolo Colon. That’s the secret.
Here’s another shining example of that. Colon recently took his offseason workout to an undisclosed beach where he was joined by current free agent Alfredo Simon. In a video posted to Facebook, Colon is shown doing some soft tossing on sandy grounds from about 60 feet, before showing his behind-the-back form that once blew ours minds.
The Stew’s Mike Oz documented a more intense Colon workout and even put it to music.
You see that and you might ponder the possibility that this is the extent of Colon’s offseason workout program. That’s simply not true. Colon puts in the work. In fact,But how much work does he need to do anyway? He’s Bartolo Colon. He’s been pitching in the big leagues for 18 years. He’s logged well over 500 innings just since turning 40. Not just empty innings either. Effective innings that have earned him an All-Star selection and eight postseason appearances during that time.
If he wants to chill and work on the behind-the-back tosses on the beach and call it a day, that’s cool with us. We’re just thrilled that we’re guaranteed at least one more season of Bartolo being Bartolo.
