Columbia Fireflies unveil glow-in-the-dark uniforms and caps
The Columbia Fireflies already had one of the most creative nicknames in the minor leagues. Now they’ll have some next-level uniforms to go with it.
Set to embark on their inaugural season in Columbia, S.C., the former Savannah Sand Gnats — and current Class A affiliate of the New York Mets — unveiled uniforms that almost guarantee a bright future.

That’s because their uniforms will literally glow in the dark, and so will their caps.
You can’t see it here, but each of the jerseys features a glow-in-the-dark portion around the team’s name and the caps feature a glow-in-the-dark logo.
It’s certainly appropriate. Fireflies light up the night. Now the baseball version will be capable of lighting up the field every time they step out there.
“We are excited to show our fans what their team will look like on the field,” said principal owner Jason Freier. “Our players will be proud to take the field in these uniforms and we are sure that fans throughout the Midlands will embrace the team’s look, as they already have our name and logo. We thank the great young players who came out to help us today. We hope to see them on the field at Spirit Communications Park one day.”

If only they could play with the lights off.
Of course, this isn’t the first instance of a minor league team having glow-in-the-dark ballcaps. That distinction belongs to the Casper Ghosts. But it’s still a rarity, and in this instance serves as a notable commitment to a new brand that will hopefully gain traction in Columbia.
At this time, we tip our boring and totally inadequate caps to them in a show of appreciation.
