Pelicans star Davis to be tested for concussion
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis left Monday’s 112-111 loss to the Houston Rockets after being hit in the left side of his face while pursuing a rebound and did not return.
New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said Davis’ diagnosis is being treated for a potential head njury.
“Concussion-like symptoms, so I’m sure he’ll just go through the protocol, and we’ll find out later exactly what the situation is,” Gentry said after the loss.
After a missed shot with about a minute left in the first half, Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans and Davis went for a rebound, and Evans’ right elbow hit Davis’ left eye. Davis was flat on his back for a few moments and slowly sat up before being escorted to the locker room by the Pelicans’ medical staff.
In 19 minutes, Davis scored nine points and had six rebounds.
“We had guys really stepping up,” guard Toney Douglas said on how the team responded without Davis. “Obviously, we had to because Anthony went down. We just have to continue to plug away and play hard.”
Davis, who has missed at least 14 games in each of his previous three seasons, has missed five games so far in 2015-16, with two of those coming in January. The Pelicans are winless in the five games without Davis.
This season, Davis is averaging 23.3 points and 10.4 rebounds.
