Pelicans PF Davis ruled out after elbow to head
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis left his team’s game Monday against the Houston Rockets after being hit in the left side of his face while pursuing a rebound. He has been ruled out due to a head injury, the team announced.
After a missed shot with about a minute left in the first half, Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans and Davis went for a rebound, and Evans’ right elbow hit Davis’ left eye. Davis was flat on his back for a few moments and slowly sat up before being escorted to the locker room by the Pelicans’ medical staff.
In 19 minutes, Davis scored nine points and had six rebounds.
Davis, who has missed at least 14 games in each of his previous three seasons, has missed five games so far in 2015-16, with two of those coming in January. The Pelicans are winless in the five games without Davis.
This season, Davis is averaging 23.3 points and 10.4 rebounds.
