Carlos Correa turns New York Winter Wonderland into his playground
Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa was in New York City on Saturday to accept his American League Rookie of the Year award at the BBWAA awards dinner.
Also in New York on Saturday was Winter Storm Jonas, which dropped over two feet of snow and shut down the city until Sunday morning. That left many of baseball’s brightest stars, including Correa, Dallas Keuchel and Bryce Harper, with nothing to do until a scaled down version of the awards dinner took place that evening.

So what’s a baseball player to do when there’s snow on the ground and no place to go?
Snow baseball. That’s what.
There’s Correa making the most of the conditions, turning snowballs into baseballs and making New York’s Winter Wonderland into his own playground.
Cool stuff in it’s own right, but even cooler when you consider that was the first time the Ponce, Puerto Rico native had ever witnessed a snowfall.
From no snow to two feet in 24 hours. That had to be quite a sight to take in.

Carlos Correa is no different than the rest of us though. When Mother Nature produced a massive snowstorm, the kid in him emerged and turned a lost afternoon into one of the most memorable of his life. The award that came later was only the cherry on the top of a truly epic day.
