Mike Trout calls into Weather Channel to provide blizzard update
It wasn’t long ago we learned of Mike Trout’s fascination with all things meteorology and his possible desire to enter the weather field once his playing days are over.
On Saturday morning, we were witness to Trout’s other passion as he called into the Weather Channel live and updated Jim Cantore on the conditions in his hometown of Millville, N.J. as Winter Storm Jonas beared down.
Those conditions, for the record, were not good. The Millville area had between 14.0′ and 17.0′ inches as of 11 a.m. ET Saturday morning, according to reports. And there’s potential for plenty more to fall during the day.

In fact, the BBWAA awards dinner scheduled for Saturday night in New York was canceled as the city was inundated with snow. The city has since issued a travel ban.
As for Trout, he was floating in “weather geek” heaven, telling Cantore, “I love it.”
He’s not lying about loving it either. Otherwise how could you explain Trout hopping in his car on Friday night and filming the blizzard from the road.
If you want to hear several baseball executives gasp in unison, show them a video of Mike Trout driving around in a blizzard. And if you want to witness social media buzzing, just have Trout call into the Weather Channel. It was the talk of the morning, mostly because of Trout’s unbridaled enthusiasm.
And also because Cantore kept calling his team the California Angels.
Once upon a time, Jim.

The good news for baseball fans is that we won’t have to worry about losing Trout to the Weather Channel on a full-time basis anytime soon. At 24, he still has years and years of great baseball ahead of him. But if the last 24 hours are any indication, we may have a difficult time keeping him out of Mother Nature’s path.
Stay safe, Mike. For all of us.
