Dylan Larkin leads Red Wings to win after chipping tooth
Detroit Red Wings rookie Dylan Larkin chipped a tooth, scored a goal and notched an assist in a 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
At the 7:19 mark of the third period, Larkin took a high stick in his face by Buffalo forward Marcus Foligno.
Then with gauze still protruding from his nostril, the forward ripped a shot past Buffalo goaltender Robin Lehner to put Detroit up 1-0.
At the 17:09 mark of the frame, Larkin drew the attention of the Sabres and whipped a feed to Henrik Zetterberg in front of the Buffalo net to put the game at 2-0 in favor of the Red Wings.
Though the 19-year-old Larkin has played well with Detroit this year with 15 goals and 17 assists, this felt like a ‘welcome to the NHL’ moment for the young forward.
He ranks second in the league in points by a rookie, behind Chicago’s Artemi Panarin who has 45 points.
A goal, an assist and a fight is named the ‘Gordie Howe hat trick’ in honor of the Red Wings legend. Maybe a goal, an assist and a chipped tooth will one day be called the ‘Dylan Larkin hat trick’ in the Motor City.
