Broncos’ Derek Wolfe on Patriots: ‘I hate everything about them’
There’s a new chapter in the Denver Broncos’ dislike for the New England Patriots in advance of the AFC championship game.
Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe is the latest to chime in on the Patriots, after what Bill Belichick called a lot of “hot air” emanating out of Denver this week. Wolfe took a shot at the Patriots — before he explained what he meant.
“I hate everything about them,” Wolfe told the Denver Post. “They’re always in my way. They’re always in my way to get what I want.”
Wolfe recently signed an extension to stay in Denver, but we are guessing he didn’t have the Patriots high on his list had he reached free agency. But he did go on to explain his hatred.
“I’ve got a ton of respect for the whole organization,” he said. “They’ve got great players — Tom Brady is a great player. Bill Belichick’s a great coach. I’ve got a ton of respect for them. I just hate them.”
Is this all that bad? No, likely not, and it’s likely not dissimilar to what some Patriots might say about the Broncos … in private. That’s the key, and it’s not as if any of the noise this week — Antonio Smith saying Brady is a crybaby, Brandon Marshall saying Rob Gronkowski pushes off most of the time — is really all that incendiary.
It’s just that it’s a one-way road from Denver to Foxboro, and never the other way around. You absolutely never hear Patriots players taking shots at Peyton Manning’s ducks or anything like that. Which is fine. It plays out on the field Sunday. We’ll find out who is still talking Sunday afternoon.
