Charlie Blackmon hits backward, half-court shot at Nuggets game
It’s only January, but based on how his offseason has gone, we have to consider Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon an early MVP candidate. In the span of a few weeks, Blackmon has revealed himself to be a superhero and lost a fight with his car’s gas light. Those two things pale in comparison to what he pulled off at the Denver Nuggets game Thursday.
Yep, that’s the Rockies outfielder draining a half-court shot while not even facing the basket. Blackmon still has a few days left in January to top this one, though that will be hard to do.
Even if he can’t reach similar heights before the end of the month, is anyone having a better January? OK, we admit, running out of gas and being stranded on the side of the road isn’t necessarily a cool thing, but it did lead to an entertaining picture of Blackmon. On top of that, he learned a valuable lesson. It wasn’t all a bad experience, right?
Of course, maybe there’s something more sinister at play here. After signing Gerardo Parra, the Rockies now have four viable starting outfielders. It’s rumored that they are looking to deal someone to fix that issue. It is possible the Rockies have purposely staged each of these events in order to make Blackmon look more appealing to other clubs? Who wouldn’t want a superhero who can drain half-court shots and is capable of laughing at himself during bad days? Blackmon hasn’t been in the news all offseason and then suddenly he’s all over the front page of your favorite website? Color us skeptical.
[Elsewhere: Pablo Sandoval has reportedly lost 20 pounds this offseason]
Is this all a giant conspiracy, or is Blackmon really just having an exceptional January? We want to believe the latter, but the former is way more fun.
